Something worth knowing before you plan: Grenada has only recently become a regular fixture on Ascent’s Southern Caribbean itinerary. Our schedule research found a single historical call against seven for the coming season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That matters more than it sounds. It means the people around you at the gangway will mostly be first-timers here, the ship’s excursion desk will be the default for a large share of them, and the independent options will be less picked over than at a port the line has worked for a decade. It also means the advice circulating in roll calls is thinner than usual, so the planning you do yourself carries more weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Celebrity Ascent calls at Grenada<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Edge-class question: is it worth leaving the ship?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An honest one, and not rhetorical. Ascent is a genuinely good ship, and on a long Caribbean itinerary there is a real case for treating one port as a quiet day aboard with the pools empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are going to do that on this cruise, do it somewhere other than Grenada. The island is compact, the terminal puts you within walking distance of a working Caribbean town rather than a purpose-built shopping compound, and the drive to the principal beach is short. The effort-to-reward ratio here is better than at most Southern Caribbean calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three ways to spend the day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Option 1: St. George’s on foot<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Grenada Ports Authority puts the Carenage around ten minutes from the terminal on foot. From there the town is yours: the horseshoe harbour, the market area, lunch on the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the lowest-friction plan on the list. No transport, no booking, no fixed return. It suits a first visit where you want to get the measure of the place before committing to anything more ambitious next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Option 2: Grand Anse as the whole day<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Grenada’s principal beach, and the reason a lot of people come ashore at all. Commit to it rather than treating it as one stop among several.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Settle the return arrangement before you settle onto the sand. On a ten-hour call there is no need to hurry the outbound leg, and every reason to be unhurried about the inbound one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Option 3: cover ground under your own power<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A pre-booked ride is the option that removes waiting from the day. It suits confident adult road riders, after a fit check and a route briefing, and it is not a soft option: Grenada drives on the left, the roads are narrow and hilly, and there is no cycling infrastructure. Collection and return times<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Standard collection is 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday<\/strong>, and 9am to 2pm on Saturday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
