Short answer:<\/strong> Most people here end up with a combination, not a single answer. Buses are cheap and go where most people go. Taxis are easy and add up. A car is freedom and a bill. An e-bike covers the south-coast belt where most of daily life happens, and costs nothing to park. If you are staying a season rather than a week, work out the mix in your first fortnight rather than defaulting to taxis and wondering later where the money went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one is written for people who are here for a while — new residents, St. George’s University students, anyone on a long stay. Not for a day out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The honest comparison<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Minibuses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Grenada’s minibuses are the backbone of the island, and they are how most Grenadians actually move. They run set routes, they leave when they fill, and they are inexpensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What they ask of you is flexibility. You go where the route goes, at the pace the route goes, and coming back late is a different proposition from going out at nine in the morning. Fares and route numbers are best confirmed locally on your first week — ask a neighbour rather than a website, because that is who actually knows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your life runs along a main road, the bus is genuinely hard to beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxis<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Easy, reliable, air-conditioned, and the most expensive option per trip by some distance. Fine occasionally. As a daily default for months, taxis quietly become one of the largest line items in a student budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agree the fare before you get in. That is normal here and nobody will think it rude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have a family, live somewhere the buses do not reach, or need to carry things regularly, a car is the answer and you already know it. Between purchase or hire, insurance, fuel, servicing and the local licence, it is also the most expensive way to solve the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worth knowing before you commit: parking in St. George’s is genuinely difficult. The town was not built for cars, and on a busy day you can spend longer finding a space than you spent driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Underrated over short distances and unrealistic over long ones. St. George’s is compact but steep<\/strong> — the town climbs straight up from the harbour, and the gradient is the thing that surprises people. Grand Anse to town is walkable in theory and rarely walked twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An e-bike<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is what we rent, so read this section knowing that. It is not the right answer for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What it genuinely solves: the south-coast belt where most day-to-day life happens — town, Grand Anse, the university side — is comfortably within range, and the motor removes the hills, which is the entire reason an ordinary bicycle is a hard sell here. You park anywhere. There is no fuel, no insurance and no licence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What it does not solve: rain, carrying a week of shopping, or crossing the island regularly. And there is a real condition attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The part you should not skip<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grenada drives on the left<\/strong>. The roads are narrow, winding and steep in places, there are no bike lanes, and drivers are not expecting cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That makes an e-bike a good fit for confident adults who are comfortable in traffic, and a poor fit for everyone else. If you have not ridden on a road in years, arriving in a country with left-hand traffic and blind hill bends is not where to restart. We would rather say that now than sell you a bad month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are at St. George’s University<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Transport comes up in every incoming-student group, usually about three weeks before people land, and the answers are always the same mix of bus, taxi and lift-sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two things worth factoring in that people usually do not until they arrive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campus side and the beach side are close enough that a bike changes your week more than it would in a bigger place. And term is long — what looks cheap per trip in September has compounded considerably by December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a day costs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For short stays and visitors, e-bikes are rented by the day at published rates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standard self-guided e-bike day rentals are priced per rider, per day, and the rate drops as your group grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of six riding at the standard rate would pay $240 for the day. At the 6+ group rate the same six riders pay $180 — a saving of $60 on one day’s riding. The discount is applied to the whole booking, so it is worth asking the two friends who are undecided before you book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collection and return times<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Standard collection is 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday<\/strong>, and 9am to 2pm on Saturday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two things matter if you are arriving by ship:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
