Quick answer: Crown Princess carries around 3,000 guests — a substantial call, but a more manageable one than the very largest ships. Grenada suits an independent day well from this ship: the town is walkable, the beach is close, and a moderate passenger load means transport is busy rather than overwhelmed.
Grenada is one of the better islands on a Southern Caribbean itinerary for doing things independently. The cruise terminal sits right beside the town, the headline beach is a short transfer away, and the island is small enough that you are never far from the ship. With around 3,000 guests aboard, Crown Princess lands in a comfortable middle ground: busy enough that booking ahead is sensible, not so large that independent transport seizes up.
When Crown Princess calls at Grenada

The individual dates above come from a third-party schedule aggregator and are not confirmed against an exact-date official source. Treat them as indicative, check your own booking, and confirm onboard.
Ship time is your responsibility. Published arrival and departure times change. Your cruise line and onboard app are the only authority for your all-aboard time. Check them on the morning of the call, and build your plan backwards from that time — not from the times on this page.
Three plans that fit
Option 1: St. George’s on foot
The lowest-risk plan and, for a first visit, a genuinely good one. The Grenada Ports Authority describes the Melville Street terminal as sitting beside the Welcome Centre and shopping, with the Carenage around ten minutes’ walk away.
Walk the harbour, browse the market area, take the photographs, have lunch on the water. The town climbs steeply away from the waterfront, so keep to the flat unless everyone is happy with a hill in the heat. Full route in our self-guided St. George’s walk.
Option 2: Grand Anse
The Grenada Tourism Authority describes Grand Anse as the island’s principal beach, and most guests who picture Grenada are picturing it. Make it the main event rather than one stop among several.
The two things to settle before you go: how you are getting back, and what time you are leaving. Both are easier to arrange while you are still at the terminal than after three hours in the sun.

Option 3: an independent active day
Riding suits confident adult cyclists who want to link the town, a viewpoint and the beach without waiting for transport. Electric assist is what makes it viable here — Grenada’s hills are the real thing.
The caveats are genuine and worth repeating: traffic drives on the left, the roads are narrow and winding with limited shoulders, and there is no cycling infrastructure. A group of six riding at the standard rate would pay $240 for the day. At the 6+ group rate the same six riders pay $180 — a saving of $60 on one day’s riding. The discount is applied to the whole booking, so it is worth asking the two friends who are undecided before you book.

Collection and return times
Standard collection is 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm on Saturday.
Two things matter if you are arriving by ship:
- Saturday returns are extended to 5pm for cruise passengers. A Saturday port call is not limited by the 2pm shop close — tell us your ship and date when you book.
- Sunday rides can be arranged on request. The shop is closed to walk-ins on Sundays, but contact us with your date and we will make arrangements where we can.
If your ship docks before 9am, say so when you book. Most Caribbean calls arrive between 7:30am and 8am, so there is usually a short gap before collection — easily absorbed with a coffee on the Carenage, provided you have planned for it rather than discovered it.

Independent or a Princess excursion?
An honest comparison. The ship’s excursion costs more per head, follows a fixed itinerary and moves at the group’s pace — and if it runs late, getting you back aboard is Princess’s responsibility rather than yours.
Going independently costs less per head, especially for a group, and gives you the day on your own terms. The trade is that the clock becomes entirely your problem.
Neither is the better answer in general. Choose the excursion if certainty matters most to you; choose independent if flexibility does. Compare on real duration, genuine inclusions and cancellation terms, not on the brochure description.

- Confirm your all-aboard time onboard on the morning of the call
- Carry water, sun protection and a little cash
- The waterfront is flat; almost everything above it is a steep climb
- The Grenada National Museum currently reports permanent closure on its own site
- House of Chocolate on Young Street is a good indoor stop but does not publish reliable hours — check on the day
- Allow for the terminal security queue in the last hour before departure

Walk the town if the day is short or the group is mixed, commit to Grand Anse if you came for the sea, and ride if everyone is confident — then be back aboard earlier than you planned.
